Naari Ka Samman Karo

Writer's picture: parivartaneaaparivartaneaa

So proud to see a Parivartan girl student reciting a poem front of an audience that emphasizes Naari Ka Samman Karo (Respect Women).

She powerfully captures all emotions girls go through walking alone in the night, and reactions that victims of assault and sexual abuse face. The fear they feel walking alone in the night and being stalked, the tendency of family members of sexual assault victims trying to hide incidents to not bring "disrepute" to the family, the helplessness that they feel thinking perpetrators will not face consequences, the victim blaming insinuating that their manner of dressing or behavior may have brought it on in some manner. And then she ends with - "what if it was your sister or mother walking that street", and an emotional call saying that true honor lies in Respecting Women.

Many thanks to the facilitators from our NGO partner CHSJ that shared the video, and are holding sessions with children for the Parivartan initiative with the goal of shaping mindsets.
