4 women- Madhuri Agarwal, Shobana Anand, Shubhra Singh and Smitha Shetty, living in different corners of the world. Strangers to each other. Bonded by their alma mater - the Indian Institutes of Management, and a common passion - to fight the scourge of sexual violence and rapes in India. And Parivartan was born. We were joined by 2 child activists working toward this purpose already.
2 months earlier, in Nov 2019, a 27 year old veterinarian doctor, Dr Priyanka Reddy was abducted near Hyderabad. She was gang-raped, strangled and then burnt to death. The grisly incident revived memories of the animalistic Nirbhaya gang rape and torture in a bus in New Delhi 8 years ago. The anger, helplessness and guilt felt by the country could not be contained. The Parivartan core team were driven by the purpose of turning that helplessness into a call for action.
Here's what the Core Team says about Parivartan:
" When we started, we wanted sustainable and positive change. We knew it meant changing mindsets which is tougher and takes longer, and must start from an early age. Tremendous research, analysis, dialogues with experts were done to make Parivartan a reality. We have proud to have brought together 4 organizations for working together toward this common goal"
The initiative involves an immersive and experiential curriculum of gender sensitization that empowers kids against abuse and to become adults that stand up for gender equality, respect and a rejection of violence. This initiative is a collaboration with SOA & CLL-TISS as the curriculum provider and master trainer; and NGOs allocating facilitators that will get trained and then work with kids in schools - Vasavya Mahila Mandali, CHSJ and PVCHR.
The initiative is currently implementing the pilot and doing a fundraise for the costs. Please support us at https://milaap.org/.../support-to-reduce-the-incidence-of...
