Empowering girls and women has been a core focus area for organizations working towards social development. It is an established fact that gender equality and women's empowerment not only improve individual outcomes but also lead to better overall social and economic development. With this aim, a lot of work has been done in the area of gender sensitization, especially in schools. Recently, our NGO partner, Learning Space Foundation, led by Kaumudi Nagaraju, started gender equality and gender sensitization training in schools in Hyderabad. The program is designed to promote gender equality and empower young girls and boys to become gender-sensitive individuals. The training started with an energizer session to break the ice and help participants connect with each other. The session was followed by a relationship-building activity that emphasized kindness and respect towards each other, irrespective of gender. The participants were encouraged to wish the best for their friends and stay connected, even from a distance. The third activity focused on self-love and self-respect. The participants were asked to highlight positive qualities in themselves, promoting the idea that self-love and self-respect are essential for individuals to grow into confident and empowered adults. One of the essential aspects of the training was conducting the session in Telugu, the local language. It is a well-known fact that learning in one's native language leads to more effective learning outcomes. The use of Telugu language ensured that participants could understand the concepts better and engage more actively in the training. The training program has been carefully designed to promote gender equality and empower young girls and boys to become gender-sensitive individuals. It is crucial to promote gender sensitivity and respect for diversity from an early age to create a better and more equitable society. As an organization committed to social development, we are delighted to partner with Learning Space Foundation and work towards empowering individuals to become more gender-sensitive and promote gender equality. We are excited to see the positive impact that this training will have on the lives of young girls and boys in Hyderabad.
